On 28 June 2022, while traveling through France, Switzerland and Germany, the Royal Ottoman Society gathered for a heartfelt sohbet as part of the “Mawlana on Tour” series. In this moment of reunion after many years, we were reminded of both our shared blessings and the inevitable passage that awaits every soul.
The talk opened with the familiar greeting As‑salaamu ʿalaykum, followed by gratitude to Allah for bringing us together once more. The speaker honored those beloved companions who have already crossed the threshold into the Akhira, acknowledging their absence while affirming that death is a natural stage for every human being—Muslim or non‑Muslim alike.
The central image was the “door of the Hereafter.” It was described as an unavoidable portal through which each of us must pass: “Nobody can run away from his turn.” Rather than viewing this transition with fear, the message urged us to approach it with easiness and happiness, trusting that Allah’s mercy will guide us across.
