On a bright summer evening in Grenoble, the Royal Ottoman Society welcomed friends and seekers to a heartfelt assembly of nasheed, dhikr, and Qur’an recitation. The event marked one stop of the “Mawlana on Tour” series that brings Sufi devotion and Ottoman heritage to cities across France.
The gathering began with the resonant chant of traditional nasheeds, their melodic verses inviting every heart to remember the Divine Presence. As the voices rose, the atmosphere softened into a collective zikr, where participants—young and old, locals and visitors—joined in rhythmic remembrance. The simple repetition of “Allah” created a living tapestry of devotion that echoed through the hall, fostering a sense of unity that transcended language and background.
Following the dhikr, the Mawlana led a reflective reading from the Qur’an. The recitation was accompanied by gentle translation, allowing those unfamiliar with Arabic to follow the meaning of each verse. Listeners described the experience as “a soothing balm for the soul,” noting how the cadence of the Qur’anic verses intertwined naturally with the earlier nasheeds and dhikr.
Beyond the spiritual practices, the evening offered moments of sohbet—informal conversation where members shared personal insights, asked questions about Sufi practice, and exchanged stories from Ottoman history. These exchanges reinforced the community’s commitment to both inner transformation and the preservation of a rich cultural legacy.
We are grateful to everyone who attended, sang, and listened with openness. Such gatherings remind us that the path of love and remembrance is ever‑present, no matter where we travel.
