On the evening of 2 November 2019, the Royal Ottoman Society gathered in Rome for a luminous “Golden Apple” Sufi night. Beneath the ancient arches of the Eternal City, participants were invited to taste the spiritual fruit that the Ottoman tradition offers—a blend of poetic chant, heartfelt dhikr, and reflections on the timeless presence of the Divine within our heritage. The gathering resonated with the gentle rustle of prayer beads, verses from classical Ottoman poetry, and the warm fellowship that characterizes every Royal Ottoman Society sohbet.
In the spirit of continuity, attendees recalled the striking 2014 poster campaign in Berlin that celebrated Sultan Abdulhamid II’s legacy for four weeks—a vivid reminder of how art and devotion can enliven public spaces. That memory sparked lively conversation about future projects: new artistic installations, intercultural dialogues, and further opportunities to let the “voice of the Ottomans” echo across Europe. The night concluded with a collective intention (niyya) to nurture these aspirations through sincere practice and shared effort.
