On Saturday, 13 October 2018, the Royal Ottoman Society will host a special Ottoman Sufi Night at the historic Falzbau theatre in Ludwigshafen. Sheikh Bahauddin Adil Efendi joined us in the studio to share the spirit behind this gathering and to invite everyone to experience the night’s unique blend of music, poetry, and whirling dervish performance.
A celebration rooted in love and art
Sheikh Bahauddin reminded us that the Ottoman Sufi Night is more than a cultural showcase; it is an act of artful devotion. The previous evenings, recorded on YouTube, resonated deeply with viewers worldwide and received heartfelt comments praising both the artistic quality and the spiritual atmosphere. Though our team works as volunteers, the dedication feels “more than professional,” producing a night that lingers in memory.
The upcoming performance will feature:
- Rolling dervishes whose graceful spins symbolize the turning of the heart toward the Divine.
- State‑of‑the‑art sound and lighting designed to bring the ancient ritual into a modern theatrical setting.
- A repertoire that balances gentle, contemplative chants with powerful, rhythmic dhikr—what some describe as “hard music for hard zikr.”
Accessible to all
Ayberk Efendi has deliberately kept ticket prices low: each admission covers a modest fee, a soft drink, and the opportunity to support the volunteers. The aim is simple—no one should be turned away because of cost. We encourage anyone with free time on Saturday to join us; whether the hall fills or only a few remain, the night’s blessing remains unchanged.
Looking ahead
While we focus on this October event, Sheikh Bahauddin also hinted at future gatherings in Malaysia, Turkey, and Paris once travel conditions allow. The Society continues to plan performances that respect local circumstances and avoid placing anyone in difficulty.
