In a warm gathering at the Royal Ottoman Society’s London venue, Ayberk Efendi welcomed two distinguished scholars—Sheikh Mehmed Efendi and Sheikh Bahauddin Efendi. The occasion served both as a heartfelt introduction of the esteemed sheikhs to our European friends and as the official launch of Sheikh Bahauddin Efendi’s latest work, Holy Legacy.
Ayberk Efendi began by reminding everyone that the Ottoman‑Islamic tradition has never been limited to any single nationality or language. “The empire was a tapestry of peoples—Turks, Arabs, Kurds, Persians, and many others—who were united not by ethnicity but by the sincere desire to serve the Highest.” He emphasized that this inclusive spirit continues today in our community, where seekers from all backgrounds gather to study the timeless teachings of Sufism.
Sheikh Mehmed Efendi then spoke briefly about the historical role of the Ottoman courts as patrons of knowledge and spiritual refinement. He highlighted how the early sultans chose scholars based on merit rather than cultural affiliation, fostering an environment where truth could flourish unimpeded by sectarian labels. His words resonated with the audience, reminding us that authentic Islam has always been a path of love, humility, and service.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of Holy Legacy. Sheikh Bahauddin Efendi described his book as a “concise guide to the inner dimensions of faith,” drawing on classical Ottoman mysticism while addressing contemporary challenges faced by believers. He explained that the work seeks to bridge the gap between scholarly discourse and everyday devotion, offering readers practical tools for remembrance (dhikr), sincere supplication, and ethical conduct.
The gathering concluded with a collective dua for the book’s impact and for the continued guidance of the Mahdi—a reminder of our shared hope for a future where the true spirit of Islam shines universally. Attendees left inspired, carrying copies of Holy Legacy and renewed commitment to embodying the compassionate ethos championed by the Ottoman tradition.
We invite anyone moved by this event to become part of our growing community, explore further teachings, and support our mission.
