Late Ottoman war and administration increasingly relied on maps, railways, telegraph networks and reconnaissance. Control of information could decide the fate of whole armies. On this day in 1918, the second day of Megiddo deepened the Ottoman collapse as Allied cavalry cut communications and seized key routes. The campaign showed that in the modern age, losing the wires and the roads could mean losing the battle itself.
