The Real Purpose of Our Arrival
Sheikh Mehmed reminded us that we were not sent to this world merely to chase fame, power, or fleeting pleasures. The Qur’an, in its clear verses, tells us that Allah created mankind “to be tested.” He explained that the tests manifest through hunger, fear, loss of wealth, illness, and even death. Yet these hardships are paired with a promise: for those who remain patient, steadfast, and turn to Allah, mercy and triumph await.
Seeing Trials as Mercy
A striking point in the sermon was the metaphor of trials as “the gate of mercy.” When we perceive difficulty through this lens, our reaction shifts from rebellion to gratitude. Sheikh Mehmed illustrated that each time we miss a chance—whether it is the first, ninety‑nineth, or even five hundredth test—Allah does not close the book on us. Instead, He offers another opportunity, urging us to lower our foreheads in prostration and thank Him for His boundless hope.
He warned against the common modern tendency to cling to worldly security, seeking immortality through wealth or status. Such pursuits blind us to the blessings already present and make every hardship feel like a personal curse. By recognizing trials as doors opened by divine compassion, we can transform sorrow into spiritual ascent.
Responding with Patience and Action
The sermon concluded with practical counsel: when faced with adversity, do not fall into despair or blame (“Why always me?”). Instead, renew your intention to strive, to persevere, and to seek the company of the righteous. Sheikh Mehmed emphasized that true justice belongs only to Allah; human oppression arises from those who ignore His signs.
He called upon us to embody humility, to keep our hearts attuned to the Qur’an’s verses on trial, and to respond with sincere du‘a, gratitude, and renewed dedication to the path of servitude. By doing so, we align ourselves with the promise that Allah’s mercy will ultimately crown our perseverance.
