On the morning of 6 January 2017, members of the Royal Ottoman Society gathered in Ludwigshafen to celebrate the birthday of our beloved brother, Ayberk Efendi. The occasion turned into a heartfelt sohbet led by Sheikh Bahauddin, whose words blended gratitude, spiritual reflection, and sincere prayers for continued health and service.
Sheikh Bahauddin opened with a gentle reminder that many people lament the passing of another year, yet each added day is a divine gift. He explained that Allah grants us an extra year not merely as time on the calendar but as an opportunity to deepen our practice, to serve more fully, and to cherish the blessings that surround us. The Sheikh echoed the familiar words of mothers who say, “May Allah give you more life,” encouraging everyone to view longevity as a trust rather than a burden.
Turning his thoughts toward Ayberk Efendi, Sheikh Bahauddin praised the brother’s steadfast commitment to the community. He thanked Leyla Hanım for sharing in the journey of relocation and perseverance that allowed their modest dergah to flourish into a vibrant hub where many gather for dhikr, zikr, and collective worship. The gathering was described as a tapestry woven from countless acts of service—labor, financial contributions, and spiritual support—that have turned the space into a shared sanctuary rather than private property.
The Sheikh then emphasized the priceless gift of iman (faith). He described iman as a treasure placed directly in the heart by Allah Azze ve Celle, a shield that sustains us through trials. Even when difficulties arise, turning to this inner light brings solace and resilience. “Rızık,” he reminded the listeners, “is a secret known only to Allah; it is bestowed alongside faith.”
In his prayer for Ayberk Efendi, Sheikh Bahauddin asked Allah to grant him many more years of life, sound health, and uninterrupted service. He highlighted that as long as good deeds continue to blossom, both vitality and spiritual well‑being are sustained. The Sheikh also called upon the community to protect Ayberk Efendi’s spirit with kindness, noting that true leaders often hide their own sorrows.
The sohbet concluded with reflections on the generosity of earlier shaykhs—those who offered money, food, and service without hesitation—to keep the bonds of brotherhood strong. Sheikh Bahauddin invited everyone to emulate this selfless spirit, ensuring that our communal work remains a source of blessing for all.
May Ayberk Efendi’s example continue to inspire us to cherish each moment, serve one another, and trust in Allah’s endless generosity.
