In recent discussions within our community, a striking calculation has resurfaced concerning the remaining time before the Day of Judgment. Drawing from prophetic traditions, scholars have interpreted a saying of the Prophet ﷺ that “if my ummah is upon guidance it will be given one day; if it goes astray, half a day.” In these narrations, a single day is equated with 1,000 years, making half‑a‑day equal to 500 years. When the lifespan of the ummah is understood as one and a half days—1,500 years—the arithmetic leads to a sobering conclusion: subtracting the 1,448 years already elapsed leaves roughly 52 years until the final hour.
While such numbers can provoke anxiety, the Royal Ottoman Society invites you to view this insight not as a source of fear but as an invitation to deepen our collective mindfulness and devotion. The reminder that time is limited calls us to return to sincere worship, strengthen our ties to the prophetic path, and support one another in the journey toward guidance.
