The Royal Ottoman Society is pleased to share the recent composition “Nakşibendi Dervişleri,” written, performed, and produced by Ayberk Efendi and his ensemble. Set to a resonant melody that weaves together modern instrumentation with the timeless cadence of Sufi chant, this piece invites listeners into the inner world of the Naqshbandi path.
The lyrics celebrate the noble bearing (“heybet”) of the dervishes, likening their presence to majestic lions whose crowns encompass heaven and earth. Through vivid imagery—haydariye külah üstünde sarıkları (the ceremonial cap and cloak) and the rhythmic chanting of tesbih on their tongues—the song reminds us that true greatness is attained not by clinging to material possessions but by “undressing” the ego, becoming an akshi, and surrendering wholly to God. The refrain repeatedly affirms this surrender: “Teslim olur hakka böyle Nakşibendi dervişleri” (“Thus the Naqshbandi dervishes submit to the Divine”).
Ayberk Efendi’s composition does more than honor a historic tariqa; it offers a living reminder that the spiritual practice of the Naqshbandi order remains vibrant today. The repetitive chant and melodic flow are designed to guide the heart toward zikir—the remembrance of Allah—making the piece both a listening experience and a subtle invitation to personal reflection.
