On 24 June 2022 the Royal Ottoman Society welcomed a special visit from Mawlana as he journeyed through France, Switzerland, and Germany. The purpose of his tour was to share the timeless wisdom of the Sufi path with communities across Western Europe, to strengthen ties between our Ottoman heritage and seekers abroad, and to offer moments of collective remembrance (dhikr) in historic settings.
In each city Mawlana gathered small groups of faithful, inviting them into heartfelt sohbet where the inner dimensions of love, humility, and service were explored. In France he spoke beside a centuries‑old cathedral, drawing parallels between the architecture’s soaring arches and the soul’s longing for the Divine. In Switzerland, set against alpine vistas, his words reminded listeners that true elevation comes not from altitude but from the heart’s ascent toward God. Finally, in Germany, the gathering took place in a modest cultural centre where participants felt the gentle power of shared zikr resonating through simple chants.
Throughout the tour Mawlana emphasized three practical reminders for the modern seeker:
- Presence – cultivate an awareness that each breath is a gift from Allah, and let this mindfulness shape daily actions.
- Compassion – extend kindness not only to fellow humans but also to the environment, reflecting the Ottoman tradition of stewardship.
- Continuity – keep alive the living chain of spiritual transmission (silsila) by seeking authentic teachers and supporting communal practice.
The gatherings left many participants inspired to deepen their personal practice and to join our wider community. We are grateful for Mawlana’s generosity in sharing his insight, and we look forward to future encounters that bridge continents while keeping the Ottoman Sufi spirit alive.
