In late May 2016 the Royal Ottoman Society gathered in Berlin to celebrate the inauguration of a new Sufi centre founded by Mawlana Sheikh Muhammad. The three‑day occasion was presented by Ayberk Efendi, whose warm introduction highlighted Berlin’s growing role as a bridge between Ottoman heritage and contemporary European life. Attendees—scholars, seekers, and members of the diaspora—joined in heartfelt prayers, dhikr, and reflections on the timeless values of love, humility, and service that lie at the heart of our tradition.
Mawlana Sheikh Muhammad addressed the gathering with a reminder that a centre is more than bricks and mortar; it becomes a living sanctuary where Qur’anic teachings, Rumi’s poetry, and the practice of remembrance find a home far from Anatolia. He urged participants to view the new space as a vessel for hospitality—offering shelter to travelers, education for youth, and a tranquil place for contemplation. The atmosphere was enriched by chants of “Allahu Akbar,” the rhythmic recitation of the names of the Ashāb‑i Badr, and the gentle glow of candles that illuminated the freshly opened prayer hall.
The final day concluded with a collective ziyarat (visitation) to the centre, followed by a modest feast featuring traditional Turkish dishes. This simple gathering reinforced the sense of brotherhood that defines our community and reaffirmed the Royal Ottoman Society’s mission: to nurture a living connection to the Sufi path wherever believers gather.
