The evening in Berlin brought together friends from many backgrounds, united by a sincere longing for peace and mutual understanding. In this gathering the presence of His Highness Duke Alexander von Bismarck alongside Mr. Volker Tschapke reminded us of the deep historical ties between Turkey and Germany while honoring the memory of February 24th—a day that still reverberates with tension yet calls us to transform remembrance into reconciliation.
A striking symbol of that transformation was the tank that had once stood before the Russian embassy. Rather than leaving it as a reminder of confrontation, two thousand roses were placed around it, turning steel into fragrance and signaling a collective desire for dialogue over division. The gesture captured the spirit of an old Prussian tradition: extending a hand of peace even in the darkest hours.
The speakers urged governments to move beyond agitation and weapon shipments, encouraging sincere diplomatic engagement. “We must talk, not fight,” they emphasized, insisting that friendship between peoples can only flourish when open conversation replaces enmity. Their appeal was rooted in history—Prince Otto von Bismarck’s words were cited: the love between Turks and Germans is so old it will never break. This enduring bond, forged over centuries, offers a firm foundation for today’s challenges.
Equally important was the reminder that no religion is inherently hostile; as Frederick the Great taught, “There are no bad religions, only people who misuse them.” By listening to one another’s cultures and faiths on an equal footing, we can learn, grow, and prevent the politicisation of spirituality that so often fuels conflict.
