On a crisp winter evening the Royal Ottoman Society gathered for a warm dialogue that brought together long‑standing friends and new partners. The gathering opened with heartfelt gratitude toward our honoured guests and an expression of hope despite the absence of Prince Eduard of Anhalt, who was unable to attend because of a severe flu.
A Warm Welcome
Our host welcomed Volker Tschapke, honoured as Ehrenvorsitzender of the Preußische Gesellschaft, acknowledging his steadfast support since 2010 and the progress achieved together. A brief note on behalf of Prince Eduard—delivered by Karl‑Heinz from Germany—expressed sincere regret for missing the meeting and conveyed wishes for health and a reunion in 2024.
The evening continued with salutations to Sheikh Hassan Efendi, who entered the hall with the traditional blessings “Bismillahir rahmanir rahim” and “Salam Aleykum.” The presence of Sheikh Hassan reinforced the Society’s commitment to spiritual solidarity and universal brotherhood.
Reflections on History and Unity
The conversation turned to recent diplomatic efforts, including a personal greeting from Fürst Alexander von Bismarck after a peace dialogue known as the Bismarck‑Dialog. Participants recalled the complex legacy of the former German Confederation under Otto von Bismarck, noting that 1871 marked a turning point toward renewed cooperation. In this spirit, the gathering emphasized a shared intention: to unite Germany and all nations in a common purpose of peace.
Organisers Frank Mayer and Thomas Franke, recognized as architects of the first German Bundestreffen, were warmly welcomed. Their dedication exemplifies the collaborative energy that drives our community forward.
