In this brief reflection we notice a familiar pattern echoing through the ages: whenever a nation resorts to printing money without regard for its true value, the economy soon falters. From the Roman Empire’s debasement of silver coinage, to Britain’s wartime flood of paper notes, and now to the United States’ unprecedented surge of dollars, history repeats itself in rhythm if not in exact wording. The repeated “lie” — that wealth can be created out of thin air simply by increasing the supply of currency — proves false each time, leaving ordinary people bearing the first brunt of inflation, scarcity, and social strain.
As a community grounded in timeless wisdom, we are reminded to stay vigilant, seek knowledge, and prepare wisely for uncertain times. Understanding these historical cycles can guide us toward prudent stewardship of our resources and reinforce the values of humility and foresight that Sufi teachings cherish.
